What are you worth? If I should ask you to get a piece of paper and pencil and write
down the most valuable thing connected with your life, what would you write?
The correct answer would be the soul. Man is a two-fold being. He is a soul and he is a
body. Some Individuals are accustomed to saying that man is a body and has a soul, but
according to the scriptures, man is a soul and lives in a body. Moses, in writing the first book of
the Bible, said that made man from the dust of the ground, breathed into his nostrils the breath
of life, and man a living soul.
Since you are a living soul, Jesus taught that this is the most valuable thing connected
with your life. In giving the example, Jesus placed the world on one side and you on the other
and said, 'For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt. 16:26). If one person could own
every farm in Michigan or every skyscraper building in the world, or every oil well in America,
and yet live without becoming a Christian, in death that person would be a miserable failure.
Why is the soul so valuable'? The soul is valuable because you can never be rid of it..
You may change your car and get rid of your clothes; you may even get rid of your body by
Suicide; but there is one thing you can never get rid of here or in the world to come-you can
never get rid of the soul. You must live with yourself here and you must live with yourself in
eternity.
The soul is valuable because it is pronounced so by Jesus Christ. Jesus taught that the
soul is of more value than all of the material things of the world.
The soul is valuable because as a living soul you must spend eternity in one of two
places. Each individual who lives upon this earth and who does not have the privilege of
spending an eternity with God must spend eternity in torment. It will be terrible for a person to
be raised in the morning of the resurrection with a body that will never wear out and then for
that individual soul to be cast into a torment where there will be suffering and sorrow forever
and ever and ever.
There is but one person who can save you as a living soul. This person was evidenced in
the burning fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and he, who by a power
greater than this delivered these bodies from the fiery furnace then, can deliver you as a living
soul from the fiery billows of a living torment. This person was Jesus, the Son of God. He does
not promise to save you physically if you will follow him, but he does promise that while you
are living here your sins can be forgiven and that when you face the judgment to come you can
live with him and his Father forever and forever..
The gospel is God's power to save the soul. Before Jesus can be your Savior you must
hear the facts of the gospel and obey them. When people believe the facts of the gospel; the
death, burial and resurrection of Christ; they will turn from sin in repentance, confess that Christ
is the Son of God, and then be buried in baptism. Then all the sins of their past life will be
forgiven by the power of the blood of Christ.
