Change is good but change can also be not so good. We have a
culture that always wants change. Change is good when it leads to
better living conditions for all. But change is not so good when
it allows so much permissiveness in our land.
The cry for change has also come into the church of our Lord.
Some Christians just want change for change sake not counting the
consequences. Others are determined to destroy the church as we
know it and just make it another denomination.
Bro. William Woodson in his book, Change Agents and the
Churches of Christ, makes the following observations about "the
change agents agenda." Change agents make at least ten
affirmations about the members of the church of Christ:
1. We have misunderstood Grace.
2. Baptism for the remission of sins is not necessary.
3. Salvation is by grace alone - faith only.
4. We are a denomination among denominations.
5. Instrumental Music in worship should not be a barrier to
fellowship.
6. Our worship services need refreshing by the Holy Spirit.
7. Core doctrines are the first order of truth.
8. Direct works of Holy Spirit need to be reemphasized.
9. We should fellowship the denominations because they are
our brothers in Christ.
10. Women must have a public role in the services of the
church.
Bro. William Woodson goes into great detail in his book and
shows these positions to be false. He also ends the book with the
following statement, "The time to be alert to danger is now; the
encouragement of our great and good brotherhood is that with love,
with full regards for the nature of the problem, but with loyalty
to Christ and His body, it will insist that these change agents,
and their allies and converts, will be obliged to repent of their
hurtful efforts and desist; if not, 'it is time for them to go."
I agree with what Bro. Woodson has said and I would only add
this to his comments: "If you are in fellowship with the
denominational world, then go join them, place membership in one of
their congregations and leave the church of our Lord alone."
