The above statement was made to me by a preacher of a
congregation whose leadership had allowed many new innovations in
their congregation and whose said leadership was leading the
congregation into the "Unity in Diversity" false doctrine.
When I and others of like precious faith challenged the
preacher and the leadership of that particular congregation in
pointing out the errors of these new innovations and the false
doctrine of "Unity in Diversity," they replied with the above
statement. They also said to us, "if the people don't like the
direction we are taking this congregation let them go to church
somewhere else. We are not forcing them to worship here."
Upon further investigation I found the younger couples of that
particular congregation told the leadership if they did not bring
in these new innovations and practice the "Unity in Diversity"
false doctrine, they would split the church by leaving and start a
new congregation in that same community. I also found out that
their preacher was the one who was behind this movement.-
When the older members of that congregation objected to what
was going on in their congregation, they were told by the
leadership, "there are several churches of Christ in our area find
one to your liking. The congregation does not have enough older
members to stop this digression from the truth. The older members,
some of which founded the congregation, now realize if they want to
practice New Testament Christianity they "will" have to move their
membership to a faithful congregation of the Lord's church.
What I have just related to you is happening in Churches of
Christ all over this country. The preachers and leaders in some of
these so called Churches of Christ would not know the truth of God
on any subject even if they fell over it. Men have been placed in
positions of leadership that know nothing of Biblical Truth and
could care less if they ever practiced it. They have sold out to
liberalism and swallowed "Unity in Diversity" hook, line and
sinker. They care not what the Bible says on any subject and have
rejected the inspiration of the Scriptures years ago. They are
only interested in their congregation keeping up with the cultural
changes, and political currents of our day. They will practice any
and everything for a crowd on Sunday morning. They have embraced
emotionalism and denominationalism. Church growth to them at "any"
price is their goal and they will let nothing stand in their way to
achieving that goal. Not me, not you, not anybody or anything.
If you do try "preaching the truth in love" to show them the
error of their way, they call you a "legalist" or "unloving."
These are the ones who despise the statement "We speak where the
bible speaks, and We are silent where the Bible is silent, We call
Bible things by Bible names and do Bible things in Bible ways."
I hope this "debating generation" never goes away. It was
through reading and attending debates I came to a knowledge of New
Testament Christianity. It was through these debates that
thousands of denominational people were shown the errors of their
false doctrines. Thank God for the men who mounted the polemic
platform, with love in their hearts, said, "Thus saith the Lord."
